Simple Italian Hugo Spritz Recipe

Simple Italian Hugo Spritz Recipe

Welcome to our soft-Italian summer series.

The Aperol spritz has gained popularity, but the hidden gem is the Hugo Spritz...

Bright, refreshing, minty... with no bitter aftertaste that most people dislike in Aperol.

My husband, Coble, and I enjoyed MANY a spritzes during apertivos on our honeymoon. Apertivo is Italian for appetizer, but the term takes on a whole new meaning in Northern Italy, more like "golden hour" or "cocktail hour" in the South, with light bites and refreshing cocktails.

Try the Hugo Spritz recipe below alongside Parmesan & Herb Piedmont Pennies for a crunchy, cheesy snack pairing to the bright Italian cocktail!

Hugo Spritz Recipe (aka the “other” Italian spritz)

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz Prosecco
  • 2 oz elderflower liqueur (like St-Germain)
  • 1 oz soda water
  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Lime slice or wheel
  • Ice

Instructions:

  1. Fill a wine glass with ice.
  2. Add a few torn mint leaves (gently slap them between your palms first to release aroma).
  3. Pour in the elderflower liqueur, followed by the Prosecco.
  4. Top with soda water and give it a light stir.
  5. Garnish with a lime slice and extra mint sprig.

Enjoy with Parmesan & Herb Pennies. "Buon appetito!"

Stay Cheesin!

Becca
