Recently, I found this collection of recipes from The Junior League of Augusta, Georgia, printed in 1977. It belonged to my Great Aunt Rachel who was a Home Economics teacher, an avid cook and a true creative.

As I flipped through the pages... The real Augusta recipes surprised me. Here are a few of them...
- Cheese Paste from Mrs. Arnold Palmer, Wife of the Masters' Champion 1958, 1960, 1962, 1964
- Peanut Soup from Mrs. Rosalynn Carter
- Onion Soup Gratin from Augusta Country Club
- Crab Casserole from Mrs. Jack Nicklaus, Wife of the Masters' Champion 1963, 1065, 1966, 1972, and 1975
- Harbor Chowder from Pinehurst Country Club
A common trend in these recipes were the addition on MSG, lot's of heavy cream, eggs, mayonnaise, shrimp, and bouillon. A lot has changed since then! Maybe they will say that about us one day and our infatuation with Greek yogurt, protein, and no seed oils.
Not surprising given their Southern heritage, there were three different cheese straw like appetizers recipes. Double Cheese Wafers, Ha'Penny Snacks, Parmesan Bites, and classic Cheese Straws - however, to avoid the mess of making cheese straws from scratch, I'll be purchasing Piedmont Pennies Cheesy Biscuit Bites to save time and hassle :)
After a thorough search, here are the recipes I'd use this week.
Master's Archives Recipes I would add to my Watch Party Menu:
Iced Spiced Tea
Peach Fuzz Buzz

Cheese-Garlic Grits

Quiche Lorraine

Zucchini Bread (from Mrs. Arnold Palmer)

Chicken Breasts with Dark Cherries

Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake

Creme Brulee (Coble's fav dessert)

Strawberry Pie (that my Great Aunt Rachel critiqued lol)

No matter what you're serving, I hope you have enough to eat, drink, and enjoy the tradition unlike any other. The Masters!
Stay Cheesin,
Becca
